Family Vacation – Day 1 – 6/25/2006

I’m a little late in getting this posted (we had no internet connection on vacation), but this is from our vacation last week. I have a post for each day and I’ll put them out over the next week or so…

Sunday, June 25th started the Engelsrud family vacation. While we didn’t do a lot of actual vacationing on our first day out, the day was busy none the less. We spent the morning packing, cleaning the house, cleaning the car, packing the car, and trying to keep the kids under control. Needless to say, the kids were the biggest challenge – they have been looking forward to this for a long time and are completely wired.

After a hectic morning, we finally got everything together, everyone in place and fed, and got out of Woodbury by about 1:00 pm. Not a bad start. The drive to our vacation destination – Ruttger’s Sugar Lake Lodge – is about 3 hours. Translate that in to travel time with two young kids and a very pregnant wife, 4 hours. We got to Ruttger’s at about 5:00 pm, got checked in, found our town home, and got unpacked. My parents pulled in about 15 minutes before us, so they were able to help us unload the car and get everyone settled. Jen’s parents pulled in about an hour later – yep, that’s right, the whole family… Should be an interesting week.

The resort is beautiful. Our lodging accommodations are very nice and perfect for what we need. Jen, the boys, and I have our own room with a full bathroom, the parents each have their own room, and we have full kitchen. It’s going to workout really well. We should be able to have a week of fun, relaxation, and rejuvenation. In addition, the golf course looks great and I can’t wait to play.

We finished the day with dinner at Jack’s Place (one of the restaurants at the resort) and the food was good. The service was a little lacking, but the view and evening were incredible. After dinner we came back to our town home and started a fire in the fire pit out back. The sunset was beautiful – reds, purples, yellows, oranges, all smashed into a crystal clear sky. What a perfect way to end the day. I hope each night can be this special.

Till tomorrow…
